Ocera is a vast ocean world, a feature from which it takes its name. The world has a long history of ancient civilizations battling for what little land there is.
Oceran gods are real and embody a variety of beliefs, with each claiming dominion over a facet of the world. The gods exert their influence by granting divine magic to their followers and sending signs or portents to guide them.
Because of this, magic is commonplace within the world. It is obvious in large settlements, and less so in rural areas. Common magical items such as potions and simple scrolls are fairly easy to find. In large cities, practitioners of magic use their talents to offer services to more communities or people.
Much of the world is charted and mapped. Countries exert control over the more habitable areas of the world while tribal societies can be found at their edges. Though the majority of Ocera has been discovered, the world is not safe: dangerous monsters and fantastical creatures are just as likely to be found in a city sewer as in a wild forest.
On the continent Ulora, millions of people live in villages, towns, and cities spread across thousands of miles of countryside. Large civilizations have developed technologies that have allowed for the growth of megacities. Familiar occupations among Ulorians include artisans, merchants, adventurers, clerics, soldiers, fighters, and nobles.
Powerful individuals strive to make their mark on the world, and factions of like minded individuals can alter the course of history. These individuals and factions inevitably collide, creating conflict that can steer the world's fate. This, coupled with the rapid advancement of magically powered technologies, has meant the world has existed in a near constant state of war that has scarred much of it.
While the threat of war is ever looming in the back of the collective Ulorian psyche, the promise of a better tomorrow drives innovations outside the realm of conflict. The advent of an industrial revolution in a magic-dominated world has brought about a fusion of supernatural power with advanced technology to ascend to a higher level of applied science. Skyscrapers, transport, and rudimentary telecommunications stand out as beacons of invention alongside progress in the fields of alchemy and thaumaturgy. The world of Ocera stands on the brink of a shining new frontier of discovery and adventure.
